Tips When Choosing an Interior Design Theme

Some clients already have a vision of what they want their home to look and function like, and others don’t. Regardless, we recommend that each client takes the time to do their research before making any final decisions, which may include:

Looking for inspiration – there is plenty of great places to look for design inspiration, and Pinterest is a great place to visit. Pin examples of colours, rooms, furniture, and styles you like and use these to develop mood boards. Also look around your home and take photos of key objects or areas you love to add to your design brief.
Consider your lifestyle – an all-white interior may look fabulous but isn’t suitable for a young and active family. Will you need extra storage capacity, a home office, or an entertainment area?
Your home’s location – a home in Waiheke Island is likely to require a completely different set of colours and furniture than an apartment located near Queen Street. Examine the other properties around you to see design styles and any reoccurring themes other owners have chosen to use.
Your likes and dislikes – jot down themes you fancy and those you dislike. Remember to include your preferences regarding colours, furniture and accessories to help in staging your home.
