8 Questions to Ask When Hiring a Home Stager
Whether you’ve found your Auckland home stager through Google, or from a friend’s recommendation, it’s important to know a bit about them before you hire them. Here are some questions to get you started.
Can I see your portfolio?
Every home staging company should provide you with an updated portfolio of properties they have staged. They should show you photos of properties they have staged which are like yours.
What are your home staging rates?
Most home stagers will offer a free estimate over the phone, or a quote once they have visited the property. This is likely to be for a set period of say five weeks. Should you need it for longer, then its likely you’ll be offered a weekly renewal fee.
Do you have insurance?
The staging company will be providing its own furniture and home décor pieces, as well as delivering and collecting them. To avoid a costly bill yourself, it is important that they have their own insurance to cover any damage. However, you still may be liable for damage you have caused, especially if you are living within the staged home.
Do you have an interior designer in your team?
Having an interior designer in your home staging team is vital because they hold the knowledge and experience about dressing every room of a home. They select not only the most suitable furniture, but also where it is positioned and the right colour accessories.
What services do you offer?
Some home stagers work only with the blank canvas of your home and require you to have moved out your personal belongings first. Others can assist you with the moving out. Many staging companies have well developed relationships with a range of local service providers such as a plant hire company and use these to help dress your property.
Can I see testimonials from your past clients?
It is important that you obtain testimonials from past clients, as they will be able to give you more information about the company, but from a client's perspective. As well as written testimonials, ask to speak with a few of their past clients too so you can ask them additional questions.
What is the home staging timeline?
Ask what the timeline for staging the property will be. Most require around two weeks’ notice, though shorter timeframes may be accepted. As for the staging process, most will require one day to set up and another day to remove the furniture and accessories.
What types of homes have you staged?
When choosing your Auckland home stager, you want to select one which has staged a variety of properties, including ones like yours before. This means they not only should have staged apartments, townhouses and houses, but also a wide variety of property ages and designs. Ask the home stager what they would recommend for a home like yours and ask if they have any photos or images so you can envision the result.
