Home Office Ideas to Get Your Creativity Flowing

Stuck when it comes to finding workable home office ideas? Remote working isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. So we’ve put together a collection of interior design suggestions for your workspace which are sure to get your creative juices and enthusiasm flowing.

Creative Home Office Ideas

At Finer Homes, our home staging and interior design team enjoy the challenge of creating home offices which motivate, engage and excite our clients. Space is at a premium here in Auckland, with homeowners needing to maximise every inch they have of it. Often there isn’t a spare room to transform into an office, requiring a creative approach instead. To help you create the perfect workspace, we’re sharing six home office ideas for you to consider.

  1. Skip the drawer – instead of a bulky drawer laden desk, try a table instead. It provides a versatile surface which can be used for other activities and can make a room look larger as you can see underneath it. Most files are store in the cloud nowadays, so there is no need for a traditional desk with drawers and a back.

  2. Add the perfect rug – not only can a large rug help accent other colours or objects in a room, but it can absorb excess sound too. While it could be placed under your workstation, a rug would be equally at home nearby.

  3. Consider the lighting – position your workstation near a window to maximise the use of natural light. While some people enjoy looking outside, others prefer the window to their back, especially if it is north facing. If artificial lighting is required, consider not only the appearance and positioning of the fixture or lamp, but also the type of bulb to replicate natural light as close as possible.

  4. Think vertical – if you are short on space, go vertical rather than spreading horizontally. Install cabinets up to the ceiling and tall bookcases for extra storage. You could even have a fold down tabletop attached to the wall, that when not in use is raised up.

  5. Go green – you may be inside working, but there’s no reason why you can’t bring the outdoors in to you. Consider installing a vertical garden near your workspace or position a range of houseplants around it. You could even choose textiles and fabrics which have a fauna or flora theme to really go green.

  6. Make it mobile – no one says that your home office needs to stay in one place. Choosing furniture which is easily moved on wheels or carried can let you choose a new place to work every day.  It can also make the space multifunctional, perfect for a busy family who are unable to have a permanent dedicated office space.
